Setting up your class types

Create the classes you run — duration, capacity, timetable colour, the induction flag, drop-in price and whether they show on your public schedule.

A class type is the template for a class you run — Spin, Yoga, Reformer Pilates. You set it up once with its usual length, capacity and colour, then drop it onto the timetable as often as you like. Everything else in this section builds on it, so it's the right place to start.

Before you start

Two things need to be in place:

  • The Classes module must be switched on, under Settings → General → Modules. Only a manager or the owner can change that.
  • Whoever is setting classes up needs the Classes & Scheduling access area — "Class timetable, bookings, capacity". See Adding staff and a reception login for how access areas work.

1. Open the class types list

Go to Classes in the left-hand menu, then click Class types in the top bar. You'll get the list of everything you already run, with its duration and default capacity, and a form underneath to add a new one.

2. Fill in the class type

  • Name — required. This is what members see, so use the name they'd recognise.
  • Description — optional, a short line about the class.
  • Usual location — only appears if you have more than one location set up. It's the default for new sessions; you can still override it on any individual class.
  • Duration (min) — defaults to 60.
  • Default capacity — defaults to 12. This is how many people can book.
  • Colour — pick a swatch. It's how the class shows up on the timetable, so give your different classes different colours and the week becomes readable at a glance.

3. Choose the two switches

This is the studio's induction class — turn this on for the session you run to show new members around. When you check someone into a class of this type, TelosGym marks their gym induction complete automatically, so the Induction column on the Clients page keeps itself up to date.

Show on the public schedule — on by default. Leave it on for classes you want the world to see, and turn it off for members-only or 1:1 class types. This only affects the timetable you embed on your own website — see Showing your timetable on your website.

4. Set a drop-in price, or leave it blank

Drop-in price decides whether someone without a covering membership can book this class, and what it costs them.

Leave it blank and the class stays free to book for anyone, membership or not. Put a price in and TelosGym starts charging members who aren't covered by their membership. Drop-in prices and paying for classes explains exactly how that works — read it before you set your first price.

Click Add class type to save.

💡 Only one class type can sensibly be your induction class. If you turn the switch on for a second one, checking in to either will mark inductions complete — which is probably not what you want.

Editing and deactivating

Every class type in the list has Edit and Deactivate.

Deactivate is the tidy way to retire a class you no longer run. A deactivated type shows greyed out and marked (inactive), and it stops appearing in the list when you schedule a new class. Classes already on the timetable are completely unaffected — every session keeps the duration, capacity, location and price it was created with. Click Activate to bring it back.

There's no delete, and that's deliberate: your past classes and their bookings still need something to point at.

💡 Changing a class type doesn't reach back and change classes already scheduled. If you change a duration or capacity, it applies to sessions you create from then on. To change one that's already on the timetable, edit that session directly.
