Letting clients sign up online

Switch on self-signup so new members create their own account from a link — and know what staff still have to do afterwards.

By default, someone joins your studio because a member of staff adds them. Self-signup lets people create their own account from a link instead.

1. Switch it on

Go to Settings → General → Modules and turn on Self-signup. It's off by default, so nothing changes for an existing studio until you choose it.

2. Share your signup link

Once it's on, your studio has a public signup page:

client.telosgym.com/your-studio-slug/signup

Your slug is the short version of your studio name in the address. The page is studio-branded — it picks up your colours — so it looks like part of your own setup rather than a generic form, and it looks the same to a logged-out visitor as the rest of the app does to a member.

Put it on your website, in your Instagram bio, on a poster with a QR code.

If self-signup is off, that URL won't work. That's enforced properly at the server, not just hidden.

3. What the client fills in

First name, last name, email, an optional phone number, and a password. That's all.

They're logged straight into the client app once they're done, and TelosGym assigns them the next member number automatically.

The three things to know

They arrive with no membership

This is the big one. Self-signup creates the account, not the membership.

A new signup lands with a login and a member number and nothing they can train on. Someone still has to assign them a membership and take the first payment — see Adding clients and inviting them to the client app and Creating membership types and setting prices.

Get into the habit of checking for new signups, or people will join online and then turn up expecting to train.

An existing record gets claimed, not duplicated

If someone was already added at the front desk with the same email address, and they've never had a client app login, signing up attaches the new login to that existing record.

Their member number, history, waiver and induction all stay exactly as they were. You don't end up with the same person twice.

"An account already exists — log in instead"

If the email already has a login, signup is refused with that message rather than taking over the account. Tell them to log in, or use Forgot password? on the login screen.

The same applies to a client whose portal access you previously revoked. They can't sign themselves back in — re-invite them from the Clients page instead. That's deliberate: revoking access shouldn't be undoable by the person you revoked it from.

Signing up from your class timetable

If you've embedded your timetable on your website, someone clicking a class lands on a booking page offering Log in and Sign up, with Log in first.

That order is on purpose: most people arriving from an embedded schedule already have an account, and defaulting to Sign up tends to produce duplicates under slightly different email addresses.

The Sign up tab only appears when self-signup is switched on. See Showing your timetable on your website.
